This year, PEN America is thrilled to be a media partner of the Sant Jordi Festival of Books & Roses in New York City, which has been uplifting and defending literature in translation in NYC since 2014. Co-organized by members of PEN America’s Translation Committee, SJNYC is inspired by the Barcelona tradition of bookstands and flower stalls lining the boulevards on April 23rd. Honoring the Catalan tradition of exchanging books and roses as symbols of love and friendship, the festival brings this cultural celebration to the heart of NYC.
With readings, poetry slams, author conversations, film screenings, and an outdoor book and flower market, this time-honored festival is packed with events for all ages to enjoy. The online portion of the festival will take place April 25-27th at 2-5pm ET, and the in-person portion will take place April 25-27th at 7-9pm ET across several venues. The book fair will be on April 26th from 12-5pm ET on Christopher Street between Waverly and 6th Avenue. Check out the full program on the festival’s official website below.
