Journalist and Author Mike Hixenbaugh will join PEN America at the Bishop Arts Theatre on September 26th to discuss book bans and the movement to censor literature affecting public schools and libraries nationwide. Mike will be joined by former librarian, author, editor, and advocate, Kelly Jensen along with the co-founder of the Texas Freedom to Read Project and Texas public school parent, Laney Hawes. The panel will also include Matt Nosanchuk, the U.S. Department of Education’s deputy assistant secretary, who leads the Biden administration’s response to the unprecedented rise of school library and classroom content restrictions that can violate the civil rights of students.
The panel will be moderated by author and PEN America Chapter Leader, Sanderia Faye.
