2024 Annual General Meeting: The State of the Nation, the State of Free Expression

The results of the 2024 presidential election have sparked a wave of uncertainty across the literary community. Writers, journalists, educators, librarians, and artists—who are acutely impacted by threats to free expression—are asking, “What is now at stake?” At this year’s Annual General Meeting, we will gather virtually to envision the future of PEN America, reflecting on how we can navigate our current political climate and strengthen our mission to defend the liberties of writers amid the incoming administration. Members of PEN America’s Board of Trustees Marie Arana, Tom Healy, and Allison Markin Powell, will be in conversation with PEN America’s senior leadership. The conversation will be followed by an audience Q&A.

The Annual General Meeting is a member-exclusive event. To register for this special event, visit the password-protected PEN America Member Benefits page.
