PEN America works tirelessly to defend free expression, support persecuted writers, and promote literary culture. Here are some of the latest ways PEN America is speaking out.
- PEN America joined the PEN network in Poland this week for the 91st Annual Congress, where PEN centers worldwide come together for urgent conversations on literature, free expression, and solidarity. Hosted by our secretariat PEN International and Polish PEN, the theme of this year’s Congress is “Freedom of Words – Words of the Free”. Read more and check out the public program here.
- PEN America’s digital safety team partnered with the International Women’s Media Foundation and Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press to host a Holistic Safety Clinic at the Indigenous Media Conference from Aug. 13-15. The team also led a series of in-person digital safety trainings for a local newsroom in Detroit.
- PEN America was referenced in a story about the United States’ withdrawal from the United Nations’ Universal Periodic Review of its human rights record.
