Sedef Kabaş has faced multiple trials for "insulting the president" and other charges based on her social media posts and TV commentary. She was arrested on January 22, 2022, for remarks made on a TV show and temporarily released in February. In March, she was sentenced to two years and four months but released pending appeal. A new case was opened on June 22, 2023, for her tweets, and her trial has been repeatedly postponed. In November 2025, she was sentenced to 10 months in prison for "disseminating misleading information" due to 2024 social media posts about the Central Bank Governor. The sentence was deferred. In the same month, the 8th hearing of her "insulting the president" trial was held. Kabaş was briefly detained in January 2026 on charges of "incitement" and "insulting the president" due to social media posts. She was released the following day.
