You Are A Writer
A Career & Craft Workshop Series
June 2026

You Are A Writer is a series of free online workshops for early career writers. Inspired by beloved components of PEN America’s Emerging Voices Fellowship, the series will introduce topics that are foundational to understanding and launching a literary career.
Novels offer us ways into exploring our own complexity, and imagine new ways of seeing. Through character, plot, voice, and form, fiction can open questions, deepen empathy, and engage the emotional and intellectual dimensions of human experience. In this way, fiction becomes not only an art of invention, but also a meaningful way to challenge perception, expand understanding, and contribute to a broader cultural conversation. This year’s You Are A Writer series is dedicated to fiction writing.
