Since 2004, Jenny Holzer has made the study of U.S. government documents the content for her context-based practice. Incorporating memos, sworn statements, emails, judgments, images, and other materials regarding the situation in the Middle East into paintings, electronic signs, and light projections, Holzer harnesses a variety of approaches to make sensate the accounting of war. She recasts the anonymity and indirection of government and administrative language as affecting and wounding objects.
Jenny Holzer lives and works in New York.
