
Bei Dao has lived and taught in England, Germany, Scandinavia, the Netherlands, France, and the U.S. His work has been translated into over 30 languages, including five poetry collections in English (Unlock, Old Snow, The August Sleepwalker, Forms of Distance, Landscape Over Zero), the story collection Waves, and two essay collections, Blue House and Midnight’s Gate. Accused of inciting the 1989 Tiananmen protests, he was exiled from China. Since 2007, he has taught at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
