A blogger who gained widespread fame for her critical portrayal of daily life in Cuba, Sánchez was arrested in 2012 for her reporting on the death of dissident leader Oswaldo Payá. She later founded the digital news outlet 14ymedio and has continued to report critically on the Cuban government. She has received multiple journalism awards, including the Ortega y Gasset Prize. She was released without trial and now runs Cuba’s only independent digital news outlet.
