In July 2021, he was detained due to his tweet criticizing academic Selman Öğüt, who is known to have close ties to the government. A few months later, on August 30, 2021, he was attacked on his way home from performing in a concert celebrating Victory Day. He was briefly detained at the airport in March 2024.
