A poet, activist, and blogger, Douma was first arrested in 2013 due to his prominent role in the 2011 Egyptian revolution. He wrote his poetry collection Your Voice is Heard which was published in 2012. He continued to write in prison despite restrictions. He was sentenced to a 15-year prison sentence. Douma was pardoned by President al-Sisi and released on August 19, 2023.
