Ronaghi, a blogger, was disappeared in February 2022 and charged with national security and propaganda offenses. He was released from Evin prison in March but rearrested after a TV interview in September. Subjected to severe abuse in detention, he was released on bail in November and hospitalized. Since then, he has faced continued pressure: fined in March 2024, briefly detained in June, and summoned again in November—an order he refused. He was arrested in June 2025. In July, he was sentenced to six years in prison. In the fall, he undertook a hunger strike with severe consequences for his health. He was released on parole in October due to his critical medical condition.
