On July 8, 2022, Aleahmad was arrested alongside filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof for “inciting unrest” and “disrupting the psychological safety of society.” He was released on bail after testing positive for COVID-19 on August 10, to be tried at a later date. On October 3, 2022, Aleahmad was sentenced to six years and four months in prison and temporarily banned from leaving the country.
