Novashov, a journalist for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, was detained in March 2022 for “false information” in his online commentary. In March 2023, he was sentenced to 8 months of corrective labor and banned from journalistic activities for a year. His appeal was rejected in March 2024. In the same month, his home was searched by authorities suspecting him of working with an “undesirable organization.”
