B.Y.O.B.B.: Bring Your Own Banned Book!

B.Y.O.B.B.: Bring Your Own Banned Book to a discussion with the Dallas Literary Society on Book Banning Throughout the Centuries.

Join a conversation with the Dallas Literary Society on the where, when, how, and why of book-banning through the ages. In one of the country’s worst horse-races, Texas is running neck-and-neck with Florida to see which state can ban more books. But though these efforts may be among today’s worst, they’re not the first. PEN America’s latest report, Banned in the USA: The Mounting Pressure to Censor noted that a majority of the books that are targeted for bans dealt with race and racism and LGBTQ+ identities. This B.Y.O.B.B.: Bring Your Own Banned Book discussion will cultivate an environment that shows the value of having books that offer a diverse range of ideological viewpoints. Attendees are invited to bring their own banned book and discuss it with the audience. Registrants may peruse PEN America’s banned book index for inspiration on which banned book that they would like to bring to the event.

Please RSVP to [email protected] for location.
