How does one come to literature? What shapes creative ambition? Is the urge to write cultivated through hearing stories as a child, reading books as an adolescent, or perhaps by some other nameless force? The French Institute Alliance Française presents best-selling writers Fatou Diome and Pam Muñoz Ryan in this second discussion as part of World Nomads. Both authors have traced literary inspiration to tales their grandmothers told them as young girls. From their homes in northern California and a small island in southern Senegal, the writers come together to unearth the moving power of the folk tales of their childhoods.
