Jessica Mendoza is the development coordinator at PEN America, where she supports the development team’s efforts on building donor relationships and assisting with special events.
Born and raised in the Bronx, she is committed to helping others through the world of nonprofit service. She graduated with a BA in psychology from Lehman College. Prior to joining PEN America, Mendoza began her career in development at Brooklyn Botanic Garden. She worked as the development research intern and was then hired full time as the major gifts associate. In these roles, she supported the organization’s fundraising team in development operations, prospect research, as well as assisted in donor cultivation and stewardship events. During her time at the Garden, she fostered a deep passion for environmental justice, conservation, and stewardship for green spaces in New York City.
She loves the arts, and you will often find her visiting the many cultural institutions of the city or exploring and volunteering for local parks. Mendoza is a proud member of the Women of Color in Development and Philanthropy community.
