Aliah Showkatian

Fall 2022 Free Expression Leadership Fellow

Aliah M. Showkatian (she/her) is a senior at George Mason University, where she is studying for a major in English (honors) with a concentration in literature and Spanish minor. Her research interests include comparative and global literature, Latin American literature, digital humanities, and freedom of expression initiatives. She has previously interned with PEN America, the Library of Congress, and Trafika Europe, and is a 2021 Schepp Foundation Scholar. Aliah’s editorial experience includes serving as the 2020-21 co-Editor-in-Chief of the Hispanic Culture Review and as the acting content manager, editor, and writer of Succeed Magazine. Her work has been accepted for presentation at the 2021 Johns Hopkins Richard Macksey National Undergraduate Humanities Research Symposium and as the only undergraduate paper at the American Comparative Literature Association’s annual conference (2021). In her free time, she enjoys knitting socks and hats, playing the piano, and tending to her many houseplants.
