Katie Bowen (she/her) is the Special Assistant, Executive Office at PEN America. Katie works with senior leadership to facilitate the effective functioning of the management team, including the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Trustees. She has a background in communications, nonprofit development, and public policy research.
Previously, Katie worked as an Analyst at Kekst CNC, where she conducted research and media monitoring to craft compelling narratives on behalf of clients. Additionally, she has experience in nonprofit development, supporting efforts to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders as a Development Intern at New Haven Legal Assistance Association and as a Strategic Partnerships Intern at ITHAKA S+R. Her undergraduate research in comparative politics focused on the intersection of law, electoral politics, and social movement theory, culminating in an honors thesis on the legalization of abortion in Argentina. Katie holds a BA in political science and an advanced language certificate in Spanish from Yale University.
