Abolfazl Ranjbari

Abolfazl Ranjbari, an Iranian activist, scholar, and writer of Azeri ethnicity, was arrested on May 3, 2025, at his home with initial charges unknown, later reported to include espionage and propaganda. By September 2025, he had been detained for over 100 days without clear charges. In October 2025, concerns were raised as he was reportedly facing “spying for Azerbaijan” and “propaganda” charges linked to a conference held years earlier. In November 2025, charges were upgraded to “corruption on earth,” and he was held incommunicado. He remained in detention as of December 25, 2025.
