Parviz Sedaghat is an economist and translator, and also is the editor of the left-leaning Critique of Political Economy journal. In early November 2025, he was arrested in a home raid, and his electronic devices were seized. His family was unaware of the reasons for the arrest. Sedaghat’s detention was part of a mass crackdown on leftist intellectuals. Several other individuals who were summoned or detained at the same time — including Rasoul Ghanbari, Shirin Karimi, and Mohammad Maljoo — were contributors to Critique of Political Economy. Sedaghat was released on bail after a week.
