Freelance journalist Mandana Sadeghi was arrested in October 2022 along with her husband during the Mahsa Amini protests, which she had been covering. She was released on bail in January 2023. She had also been acquitted of “propaganda” charges earlier in 2022. She was tried in March 2025 along with a group of other writers. Sadeghi’s charges were in relation to her coverage of the 2022 Abadan building collapse. She was sentenced to 7 months and 16 days in prison for “propaganda” and 3 years, 6 months, and a day for “collusion against national security.”
