Altay Goyushov

Altay Goyushov, an Azerbaijani scholar and online commentator based in exile in France, was tried in absentia after being accused of “threatening violence against the state.” His trial began in December 2025, and on February 19, 2026, he was sentenced to six years in prison, with a search warrant issued due to his absence from the country. Earlier, in February 2025, he had been ordered into pretrial detention in absentia. The charges are linked to his critical commentary on government policies published through online platforms.
