PEN is seeking a qualified and motivated Public Relations Intern for 15-20 hours per week. Candidates can expect to gain skills and real world experience in media relations, brand building, and communications strategy.
Responsibilities include:
- Compile, curate, and distribute (via email, web, and social media) a daily digest of free expression news
- Track and report press clips and social media campaign penetration
- Manage and maintain press and mailing lists using Mailchimp, Vocus, LinkedIn, and other networking softwares
- Engage with social media communities on Facebook and Twitter
- Draft and/or edit press releases and content for web, email, and social media content, including bi-weekly newsletter
- Maintain and track performance of Google AdWords campaigns
- Research free expression issues, cases, and organizations globally
- Assist at PEN literary and free expression events around the city
- Convert and upload multimedia to PRX and other web-based distribution sites
The ideal candidate will have school or work experience in journalism, public relations, communications, information technology, or marketing and possess a strong interest in international affairs, human rights, and literature, as well as:
- Professional demeanor and ability to work independently
- Excellent copyediting skills
- Comfort interacting with senior-level staff members
- Fluency in Internet and social media technology
- Experience with Photoshop and HTML desirable
- Flexible and eager to work on new projects
This position is unpaid. A local travel stipend is available.
