Venas Matthews-Bazin headshot

Venas Matthews-Bazin is the senior manager of special events at PEN America. As part of the development team, Matthews-Bazin manages the PEN America Literary Gala, where she works closely with volunteers, sponsors, and Board members.

A native New Yorker with a diverse background, she has over a decade of experience working for companies such as Autism Speaks, the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers at Scholastic, MTV, the Apollo Theater, and Time Warner. In her previous role at Autism Speaks, she was responsible for recruiting and managing volunteers, cultivating and stewarding relationships, raising awareness, and implementing fundraising and mission-related national events to achieve revenue goals. Her experience has included red carpet premieres, culinary events, concerts, golf tournaments, galas, award shows, walks, and concerts.

She prides herself in the ability to stay calm under pressure and create an atmosphere that is team-oriented. Her favorite quote is “Teamwork makes the dream work.”

Matthews-Bazin is a graduate of New York University and currently lives in New Jersey with her husband.
