Patrice Keats

Dr. Patrice Keats is an associate professor in the Faculty of Education (Counselling Psychology Program) at Simon Fraser University. Her program of research and primary therapeutic practice is in the field of traumatic stress. She has conducted research, written, and presented scholarly papers on the constructs of vicarious witnessing and secondary traumatic stress in a variety of populations; journalism and trauma; and sexual and domestic abuse. She also has research projects in the area of counselor education and supervision. The results of this research have been recognized both nationally and internationally through publications, conference proceedings, and keynote addresses. Dr. Keats is a Registered Clinical Counsellor in British Columbia and has a part-time private practice working with trauma survivors from civilian and military populations in both group and individual therapy. She is currently interested in international human development in the area of counseling and counselor training in develop
