Mely Kornfeld is a Summer 2021 Prison and Justice Writing intern. Born and raised in New York City, Kornfeld is a rising junior at Wesleyan University, where she is majoring in American studies and declaring a writing certificate. Previously, Kornfeld was a memorial writer and political advocacy volunteer for Mourning Our Losses, an organization that honors the lives of people who have died living or working in carceral systems in the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic and advocates for the release of incarcerated people. In her free time, Kornfeld loves to read, write, and play soccer. At Wesleyan, she is a member of Lunchbox, Wesleyan’s sketch comedy group.
