Journalism & Press Freedom Manager
Laura Macomber is the Journalism and Press Freedom Project Manager at PEN America. Her work focuses on the impact of hate speech and online trolling on writers and journalists, and on the development of approaches to curb the spread of fake news and promote the importance of journalism. Before joining PEN, Laura worked as a reporter and producer, fostering change through storytelling by covering a diverse array of issues, from human rights and criminal justice to politics and the environment. A long-time producer of the internationally acclaimed Women in the World Summit, staged annually in partnership with The New York Times, Laura has also served as the supervising producer of The American Justice Summit, a live journalism collaboration between Tina Brown Live Media, VICE News, the Ford Foundation and The Marshall Project. Laura was the associate producer of the 2014 political documentary State of Conflict: North Carolina, produced in collaboration with Bill Moyers and the Schumann Media Center. She holds a B.A. in Comparative Literature from New York University and an M.F.A. in Fiction from Brooklyn College.
