PEN welcomes the March 29, 2014 release of Tibetan writer and editor Tashi Rabten (pen-name Te’urang) who had been serving a four-year prison sentence in connection with his critical writings.

Background Information

Tashi Rabten, co-editor of the banned Tibetan-language literary magazine Shar Dungri (Eastern Snow Mountain) was sentenced to a four-year prison term on June 2, 2011. It is believed that the year that Rabten spent in pre-trial detention counted towards the completion of the term. According to Radio Free Asia, there are concerns over his health following his release from prison.
