Almudena Grandes is an award-winning novelist and one of Spain’s most popular authors. Her latest novel to be translated into English, The Wind from the East, deals with the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War and its reach into people’s lives. Lluís-Anton Baulenas is an award-winning author and playwright. His book For a Bag of Bones, which deals with the concentration camps in the Spanish Civil War, received the Ramon Llull Prize for the Novel. Sam Tanenhaus, editor of The New York Times Book Review, will ask these authors what attracted them to this dark chapter in Spain’s history, how they drew on it for their work, and what lessons the past offers for the present.
