NEW YORK (AP) — Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor is taking on the topic of freedom of expression.

She gave a talk on the subject Sunday evening on the closing night of the PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature in New York City. It’s called the Arthur Miller Freedom to Write Lecture, and past speakers have included Umberto Eco, Christopher Hitchens and Salman Rushdie.

Following the talk, Sotomayor took part in a conversation on the subject with scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr.

Sotomayor is an author as well. Her memoir, “My Beloved World,” was published earlier this year.

This year’s festival has focused on looking at the idea of bravery in art and politics.
