PEN/Faranak Adibi Translation Grants

The PEN/Faranak Adibi Translation Grants recognize translators of works in progress originally published in Arabic, Farsi, Kurdish, and Turkish. With the establishment of the grants, literature from the Middle East will gain greater recognition in the American and global literary landscape and act as a reminder of the necessity of literature to vibrant societies. Beginning with the 2025 grant conferral, PEN America will confer three PEN/Faranak Adibi Translation Grants of $5,000 each.

The grants are made possible by a substantial contribution from the Adibi family.

Applications for the 2025 cycle are now open through August 1. Submit here.

ELIGIBILITY AND SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

The three recipients are selected from the PEN/Heim Translation Fund Grant applicant pool. Please see the eligibility and submission guidelines for the PEN/Heim Translation Fund Grants for information on how to apply. Any applicant who submits to the PEN/Heim Translation Fund grants whose project is a translation from the Arabic, Farsi, Kurdish, and Turkish into English is automatically considered for the PEN/Faranak Adibi Translation Grants.
