The award will not accept submissions from the public. Please note that the judging panel will only accept submissions from a nominating sub-committee.

The award will be conferred annually to a living author whose body of work, either written in or translated into English, represents the highest level of achievement in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and/or drama, and is of enduring originality and consummate craftsmanship. The winner of the PEN/Nabokov award will receive $50,000.

This award, created in partnership with the Vladimir Nabokov Literary Foundation, was offered for the first time during PEN’s 2017 awards cycle. Adonis was the winner of the 2017 PEN/Nabokov award. 

 

Eligibility 


Eligible:

  • Living author
  • Non-US Citizens
  • Writers of any genre (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama)
  • Writers with a notable body of work over a sustained career
  • The work must be written in and/or translated into English

NOT Eligible:

  • Multiple authors
  • Reprints or anthologies
  • Self published authors
