The Illustrated PEN is a weekly online series that aspires to be at the intersection of literature, journalism, and visual storytelling, where images and words come together in an ever-emerging and essential creative form. We’ll feature fiction and nonfiction graphic narratives, comics journalism and illustrated reportage, stories of social justice and personal stories that can’t be told through words alone.

Goodnight, Donnie Cheng is an excerpt from the graphic novel Red Light Properties: Previously-Haunted Real Estate. The collection depicts stories about South Florida’s number one source for previously haunted homes. A family-owned business operated by Jude and Cecilia Tobin, Red Light Properties cleans houses of all manner of lingering spirits and psychic disturbances, guaranteeing buyers a green light-certified home at prices way below market value.  Down in the Florida Keys, Red Light Properties is charged with cleaning a luxurious ocean-front home of the last remaining traces of the kidnapped young boy who lived there until the day he never came home.

Dan Goldman will be discussing the augmented-reality comic book Priya’s Shakti tonight at Priya’s Shakti: Augmented Reality Comic Book and Exhibition as part of the PEN World Voices 2015 Festival

Goodnight, Donnie Cheng is an excerpt from Underwater, the second collection from Red Light Properties, which will be published later this year. You can subscribe to the series here.
