Translation Slam

A Festival favorite for six years running, the Slam delves into the larger cultural, social, and political changes that come into play when a translator chooses this word or that. Two poets, four translators. Palestinian poet Najwan Darwish will read a poem that will be rendered/reinvented from Arabic into English by two different translators. Jamaican-American poet Staceyann Chin will read one of her works, which will be transformed into both standard and regional Italian. The translators are then tasked with defending their choices to the poet – and the audience.
