POEMobile Pop-Up in Bed-Stuy

POEMobile, a hand-painted truck that projects poems onto buildings, brings a light show and live performance into the heart of Bed-Stuy to highlight a new box set of African poetry chapbooks edited by Chris Abani and Kwame Dawes (Akashic Books). Come out to be energized by an African diaspora experience of scripted and freestyle poetry and live music hosted by Toni Blackman, world renowned poet and MC who, for nearly 20 years, has traveled and collaborated with artists throughout Africa. Music and poetry provided by Mo Beasley, one of NY Daily News’ 50 Unsung Heroes, and his mentees Mykela Moore and Fernando Garcia of Youth Stand of Brooklyn Community Services/Coney Island; celebrated kora musician Salieu Suso; and genre-defying The Mighty Third Rail.
