PEN Presents: Cleyvis Natera and Steph Cha

Join former PEN America Writing for Justice Fellow Cleyvis Natera and award-winning author and critic Steph Cha for a conversation about Neruda on the Park, Natera’s debut novel about a family enmeshed in the complexities of culture and class within the Dominican neighborhood they have called home for twenty years.

Steph ChaSteph Cha is the author of Your House Will Pay, winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and the California Book Award, and the Juniper Song crime trilogy. She’s a critic whose work has appeared in the Los Angeles Times, USA Today, and the Los Angeles Review of Books, where she served as noir editor, and is the current series editor of the Best American Mystery & Suspense anthology. A native of the San Fernando Valley, she lives in Los Angeles with her family.

Cleyvis NateraCleyvis Natera was born in the Dominican Republic, migrated to the United States at ten years old, and grew up in New York City. She holds a BA from Skidmore College and an MFA from New York University. Her writing has won awards and fellowships from PEN America, the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, the Kenyon Review’s Writers Workshops, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. She lives with her husband and two young children in Montclair, New Jersey. Neruda on the Park is her first novel.
