Date: Tuesday, March 9, 2021
Time: 7:00pm ET / 4:00pm PT
Location: Zoom
Donation to Attend: $125 per person

Join us for a special conversation with Max Gross on his debut novel The Lost Shtetl, recent winner of a 2020 National Jewish Book Award.

Written with the fearless imagination of Michael Chabon and the piercing humor of Gary Shteyngart, The Lost Shtetl is about a small Jewish village in the Polish forest that is so secluded no one knows it exists. . . until now. Journalist and author Max Gross imagines this extraordinary occurrence through the tiny Jewish shtetl of Kreskol, spared by the Holocaust and Cold War and virtually untouched and unchanged. With great humor and a unique voice that holds a lot of heart while satirizing society, the author explores the seductions and disappointments of living in the modern world, the compromises and tradeoffs necessary, and the fables that are erased. We are so thrilled to be joined by Gross to discuss technology, modernity, and Jewish history alongside the comedic touch he is known for.

A $125 donation is required to attend this very special evening. This donation is considered 100 percent tax-deductible and supports PEN America’s mission to defend writers and free expression at a time of unprecedented need. Your generosity is deeply appreciated.
