Come light up the High Line as we inaugurate the 2012 PEN World Voices Festival, with a sundown procession of bibliomorphic puppets, illuminated objects, and projections. Evoking the fleeting omnipresence of literature in an electronic age, the Parade of Illuminations invites participants to capture luminous strands of text, literally out of thin air. Designed by Processional Arts Workshop and created in local community “puppetraisings,” visual elements for the procession draw inspiration from the sensual anatomy of books and the history of print, from ancient tablets of clay to modern tablets of light. Come animate a puppet, catch a phrase, and celebrate literature in all its incarnations.
