Our cities don’t belong to developers. Our cities don’t belong to gentrifiers. Our cities belong to the people who have called them home for generations! Join Scalawag along with our partners at PEN America as we gather Durhamites together at Full Frame Theatre to remember our city our way.

‘Member When?! is a two-part interactive event centered around storytelling, collective memory sharing, and getting together with the original hometown crew—that includes Durham’s griots, the O.G.’s, the community elders, and the youth. Come share stories of your adolescence, childhood, and grown folks years, as we remember the Durham of the ’80s, ’90s and 2000s. Guided by local storytellers, reporters, and artists, our goal at ‘Member When?! is for community members to recover our beloved collective memory of Durham so often ignored by developers.
