Faking News: Fraudulent News and the Fight for Truth

PEN America, in partnership with the Newseum, will launch its newest report on the impact of fraudulent news in today’s political climate and strategies to combat it, including training news consumers to identify misinformation and unreliable sources. The event will feature a panel discussion between Suzanne Nossel, executive director of PEN America; Mike Oreskes, senior vice president of news and editorial director of NPR; Lata Nott, executive director of the Newseum Institute’s First Amendment Center; Rem Rieder, media critic and former editor of the American Journalism Review; and George Stanley, award-winning editor of the Pulitzer Prize-winning journal Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The discussion, moderated by Gene Policinski of the Newseum Institute, will also look at NewseumED resources that help both students and adults assess fake news.
