PEN Presents: Breaking the News
4:15-5PM
Thursday, May 30
Downtown Stage, Book Expo

Heading into the 2020 presidential election, what is the state of press freedom in the United States? Journalists are under mounting threats, manipulation, fakery, and have been injected into the digital information space, and communities feel misrepresented or forgotten altogether in the public conversation. Is there hope for us to survive as an informed and engaged population, with a common understanding of the truth?

PEN America and Book Expo will co-host Breaking the News: Journalism in the Time of Trump, a panel discussion with Jim Rutenberg (The New York Times), Jason Johnson (The Root), and Suzanne Nossel (PEN America).

PEN Presents: The Good Immigrant
2:15-2:50PM
Sunday, June 2
Choice Stage, Book Con

PEN America partners with BookCon to present a panel discussion with the editors and contributors to The Good Immigrant, an anthology devoted to amplifying the voices of first and second-generation immigrants, and an intimate look at the narratives that are essential to the American experience today. With editors Nikesh Shukla and Chimene Suleyman, and contributors Jim St. Germain, Daniel José Older, and Fatima Farheen Mirza.
