Artists at Risk Connection (ARC) Consultancy Opportunity—Network Outreach and Communications

The Artists at Risk Connection (ARC) of PEN America seeks an expert consultant to develop its outreach and communications strategy in order to continue to grow its network of more than 700 organizations supporting artistic freedom of expression. The consultant will create a global strategy for ARC’s network building, conduct research, draft, and perform initial outreach efforts with a special focus on underrepresented regions, especially in Asia or Latin America. These outreach efforts will allow ARC to better assess the needs of artists at risk and identify potential partner organizations and institutions interested in supporting artists, cultural professionals, and activists working on artistic freedom of expression issues.

The selected consultant should be able to conduct informed research and develop a clear strategy and tailored content to 1) identify potential organizations ready or interested to support artists under threat, especially in Asia and Latin America; 2) recruit significant arts institutions and human rights organizations to become part of the network, mobilizing their connections and resources on behalf of at-risk artists; and 3) conduct communication with potential partners. The consultant should come with a foundation of familiarity with conducting this type of outreach for projects with a global scope, so as to be able to readily carry out this role through the lens of ARC’s mission, current and prospective activities, and the interests of its current members and stakeholders.

The consultancy is envisioned as a part-time role over a flexible period of six months, with a submission of research results in the first half of the consultancy and implementation support in the second half. The successful candidate will bring a strong background in research, superb analytical and writing skills, ease working with completing deadlines, and a track record for delivering work product on time and to specifications.

Please send a CV and letter of interest to Julie Trébault, PEN America Director of the Artists at Risk Connection, at [email protected]. Applicants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with PEN America and ARC’s work and mission, including its social media channels and prior advocacy campaigns, which can be found on our website, before applying.
