A Field Guide to Ukrainian Sex by Oksana Zabuzhko is a book that absolutely deserves to be translated into English, and pronto. Ostensibly the tale of a disastrous love affair that unravels on American soil, this short novel is in fact a brilliant, suggestive portrait of the heretofore suppressed private lives of Eastern European women. A part of the novel has been expertly rendered into English by Halyna Hryn, of Harvard, and published in Agni. The rest could be finished rather quickly if there were significant interest from a publisher.
