Susan Kuklin

Susan Kuklin (she/her/hers) writes and photographs nonfiction books for children and young adults. Topics, from human rights to the performing arts, largely focus on the individual’s right to free expression. Her photo essays for young children include Families, a look at fifteen diverse families from the point of view of children, and Dance, an award-winning book co-authored with Bill T. Jones. Her photographs have appeared in leading newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, Time, and Newsweek.

Susan is the author of Irrepressible Spirit: Conversations with Human Rights Activists, which won the Christopher Award for nonfiction, and Iqbal Masih and the Crusaders Against Child Slavery, which Bank Street College Best Children’s Books of the Year honored with the Flora Stieglitz Straus Award for Nonfiction.

Her most recent book is No Choirboy: Murder, Violence, and Teenagers on Death Row.
