Jesse Kornbluth's Membership Forum Response

10/26/05

I have no objection to having my published/copyrighted works made available to the public via the Google Print Library Project.

The music business screamed foul, but free downloads—free illegal downloads—turned out to be a boon for CD sales.

The publishing industry has filed suit, but digitizing books so a reader can pull up a snippet should—in the way of free music downloads—be a boon to the book business.

Yes, there are complicated issues here.

But they seem to get a lot simpler when the conversation turns to the financial outcome.

How dreary that book publishers, like the record companies, have taken a position which has already been proven to be short-sighted—and very much against the interests of writers.
