Israel holding 10 Palestinian journalists, six of them without charges
Israel has arrested 19 Palestinian journalists since the latest wave of violence began in October, and 10 are still behind bars. The Palestinian Authority accuses Israel of persecuting journalists in order to intimidate them. It noted that six of those detained are being held in administrative detention, without charges, and said it’s not even clear what they are suspected of. HAARETZ

The Egyptian government appears to have mistakenly sent a controversial memo detailing its strategy for dealing with critical journalists to — journalists. The apparent blunder occurred when the public relations department of Egypt’s Interior Ministry sent a memo titled “Media response to security raid on Journalists Syndicate headquarters” to a group of journalists, according to an independent Egyptian news site. Nepal expels Canadian for sowing ‘discord’ on Twitter
A Canadian man living in Nepal has two days to leave the country, the Nepalese immigration authorities said on Tuesday, after he was accused of posting a message on Twitter “aimed at spreading the social discord.” The Department of Immigration had received a complaint against Mr. Penner for “spreading unnecessary messages about Nepal,” said Kedar Neupane, the director general of the Department of Immigration. China to release last prisoner jailed over Tiananmen Square protests
The last prisoner being held in China in connection with the 1989 Tiananmen protests is set to be released later this year after nearly three decades behind bars. Miao Deshun, who was 25 at the time of the mass pro-democracy demonstrations, was one of about 1,600 Chinese people jailed following a brutal military crackdown on 4 June 1989 in which hundreds of lives are believed to have been lost.
